What to Do While Visiting Clarksdale: Free, Outdoor Activities

When visiting Clarksdale, one might not automatically think “outdoor activities,” but there are some really great, free things to do outside – many of which are just steps from our Lofts! During these uncertain times, our out of town guests may not always be able to rely on music venues, museums, and restaurants to keep up their regular hours. We’re here to tell you about some lesser known activities around town that are family friendly and social distance approved!

Soldiers Field

Along the banks of the Sunflower River, just a couple of blocks from our Lofts, is what is known as Soldiers Field. This area is complete with a walking trail, children’s play area, several picnic tables, and a disc golf course! Visitors could pick up lunch to go, carry it down by the river for a picnic, and spend the afternoon playing disc golf!

Walking Tours

Our guests love a good tour, but might not feel comfortable riding closely in a vehicle with others (or paying to do so). Instead, why not go on one of the free, self-guided walking tours in Downtown Clarksdale? Take a trip through Downtown’s past and present, guided by over a dozen local voices, with Clarksdale’s Virtual Walking Tour. While downtown, guests may notice the abundance of artwork adorning our buildings. With the Paint Clarksdale Walking Tour, guests can visit each beautiful piece while learning about the artists themselves!

Moon Lake

Venturing to Moon Lake will require a quick trip in the car, but it is well worth it on a pretty day! Looking for a fun way to get in your daily work out? Head over to the Hugh Jack Stubbs Recreation Trail, which runs along the Yazoo Pass next to Moon Lake. This trail is great for walking/biking, and has several FIT stations along the way! If you have a canoe or kayak, there’s a launch to put in on the trail! Moon Lake Landing is right there as well. There, you’ll find picnic shelter, public boat launch, a fish cleaning station, & public toilets! If you find yourself on the opposite side of Moon Lake – known as Paradise Point – Moon Lake Park offers the same amenities over there!
